Technical SEO & Site Systems Assistant (Intern)
About us
We are a digital agency working with Hong Kong brands specialising in retailing educational toys, children's books, and in-store workshops. Families shop with us online and in several mall locations across the city. Search is how many of those families discover a first product, a weekend class, or a nearby store — and we want to get much better at being found.
This internship sits within our digital operations and marketing infrastructure, working closely with e-commerce systems, development, and store listings. It is a hands-on role, not a shadowing-only placement. You will work directly on live multi-site technical environments (a brand / events site and a Shopify store) and local business directory data.
The role
You will support the technical foundations of our day-to-day SEO programme: maintaining site health, ensuring pages remain indexable and accurate, tidying a large SKU catalogue, and optimizing our multi-location local search footprint. You will report to the technical/marketing lead and present short monthly audits outlining technical findings and shipped fixes.
What you will do
- Technical hygiene & site health: Audit and monitor robots.txt, sitemaps, canonical tags, index status, redirects, and broken pages across our web properties. Flag issues clearly and assist in getting them resolved.
- Catalogue & inventory infrastructure: Audit out-of-stock and discontinued products across a large SKU catalogue, recommend keep / redirect / noindex rules, and manage inventory-driven visibility.
- Local SEO systems: Maintain precise consistency across store names, addresses, hours, and media assets. Support Google Business Profile API/dashboard updates and technical schema markup for local events and store locations.
- Analytics & performance tracking: Pull and analyze data from Google Search Console, GA4, and Looker Studio. Track crawl errors, indexing trends, and a core set of query rankings.
- Developer & stakeholder collaboration: Translate technical search audits into clear, actionable briefs for developers and buyers so that recommendations actually ship.
What we are looking for
Must-have
- Currently studying, or recently graduated in, information science, computer science, digital marketing, data analytics, or a related technical field.
- A genuine analytical curiosity about how search engine crawlers, indexing pipelines, and web architectures work.
- Basic HTML comfort (e.g., inspecting source code to locate title tags, canonicals, or noindex headers).
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing structured data in spreadsheets or data tools.
- Able to communicate technical findings in plain language: what is broken, why it impacts visibility, and what steps are needed next.
- Based in Hong Kong and able to come into our office on agreed days.
Nice to have — not required
- Hands-on experience or coursework involving Shopify, Wix, WordPress, Google Search Console, GA4, or Looker Studio.
- Basic understanding of redirects (301s), HTTP status codes, and sitemap XML structures.
- Experience working with local business directories or multi-location schema implementation.
What you will learn
- How technical SEO operates at scale on a live multi-site retail infrastructure, beyond classroom theory.
- How inventory management, database states, and search engine crawling interact.
- Multi-store local search optimization and structured data architecture.
- How to write effective technical briefs for development teams and track implementation to completion.
- A real-world technical audit portfolio and before/after performance case study for your resume.
